Why Tora Coaching?
Starting Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can be intimidating. Many people come in excited, only to feel discouraged when progress feels slow and the learning curve feels steep. It’s completely normal - but it doesn’t have to stay that way.
I created Tora Coaching because I believe real progress happens when you’re not just showing up - you’re supported, challenged, and truly part of a community that has your back. I want Tora to support your entire Jiu Jitsu journey - on the mats and off.
Whether you’re a complete beginner, a competitor looking to sharpen your game, or someone returning after a break, my private coaching is designed to meet you exactly where you are.
Private sessions focus on more than just technique. Every session is built to help you build confidence, develop strong fundamentals, train intelligently, and recover well. Most importantly, I create an environment where you feel comfortable asking questions and pushing your limits.
At Tora Coaching, training isn’t just about getting better on the mats. It’s about developing purpose, discipline, resilience, and self-belief that carries over into every area of your life.
My goal is simple: to help your Jiu-Jitsu, stay consistent, and keep getting better.
If you’re ready to train with intention and real support, I’d love to welcome you to Tora Coaching.
About Me
Hi, I'm Francis, founder of Tora Coaching.
Martial arts have been a part of my life since I was 12 years old. By the age of 15 I had completed my first teaching qualification, and for more than 26 years I've had the privilege of coaching hundreds of students from all walks of life.
Over the years I've trained across a wide range of martial arts, each bringing its own lessons and perspective. Today I'm proud to be a Brown Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with Team Ryano Causeway, a Black Belt in Japanese Jiu-Jitsu, and an instructor in Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA).
For me, coaching is about building genuine relationships, understanding what motivates each student, and helping them overcome challenges. It might be learning their first escape, preparing for competition, or simply finding the confidence to walk through the door for their very first lesson.
Every student arrives with different goals, different strengths and different reasons for training. My role is to meet you where you are, provide clear and personalised coaching, and help you become a little better every time you step onto the mats.
If you're completely new to martial arts, looking to sharpen your Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, or simply searching for a positive challenge, I'd be delighted to be part of your journey.
I hope to see you on the mats soon.
